Women’s ENews noted that August 27 is Women’s Equality Day.  ENews posted:

“On August 13, The Wall Street Journal reported “The latest Wall Street Journal-NBC News poll indicated that President Obama leads Mr. Romney 54 percent to 39 percent among women. When it comes to college-educated women, Obama leads 63 percent to 32 percent. The wide divide extends down the rest of the ballot, with certain exceptions.

These numbers most likely reflect that the two major U.S. political parties have made abundantly clear where they stand on the most basic issues that women confront everyday:

Democrats emphasize the benefits to women of the new health care law and its consistent support of access to reproductive health care, as well of their support of the Violence Against Women Act renewal. Its platform also includes a marriage equality plank.

Republican leaders have demonstrated in words and deeds that they believe the most important issues women face are economic, and the solution is to lower taxes for those in the upper income brackets and cut federal government spending on services, such as converting Medicare to a voucher program. The party leadership also consistently articulates its faith that women will find the party’s stances on access to contraception and abortion, as well as marriage equality and renewal of the Violence Against Women Act are of secondary concern for female voters.

It is up to you to let both parties know where you stand.”

Today this appeared in my inbox.  Truly worthy of the day:

For those of you who live under a rock, last week Mitt Romney indicated that Paul Ryan would be his running mate.  But who is he, really?

Honestly, I don’t know. But I checked around to find out where he stands on women’s issues.  And here is what I found out.

1.  He voted against the Lily Ledbetter Act.  Pay gaps are fine with him.

2.  He opposes abortion even in the cases of rape and incest.

3.  He has repeatedly voted against funding for Planned Parenthood.

4.  He not only opposes the ObamaCare requirement that insurance companies cover birth control, but he supports legislation that would outlaw birth control.

5.  He also supports legislation that would outlaw in vitro fertilization.

This doesn’t make him a bad guy, nor a bad choice. What it does make him is someone who is worthy of more research because at first blush he seems to be an anti-feminist.

Another reason to consider the Rock the Slut Vote?

Bet he wasn’t happy about the 1st Circuit Court of Appeals’ action striking down Section 3 of the Defense of Marriage Act, either.  Now the 1st Circuit’s decision is on its way to the U. S. Supreme Court, which has already been the arbiter of marriage rights in such important cases as Loving v. VA (1967) and  Lawrence v. TX (2003).
